“Romeo and Juliet” was born from the idea of reassembling Sergei Prokofiev’s scores, created for a ballet based on William Shakespeare’s tragic play. This isn’t the first time that Miguel Moreira has been confronted with the universes of Prokofiev and Shakespeare. He already has an extensive relationship, but his main current interest, as a creator is focused on dance and its language, urging an encounter with Prokofiev and Shakespeare, capable of looking at humanity, as it is, in its immense fragility and dreams. Shakespeare primarily emanates an image of mystery. His legacy is a hymn to the magical places of incomprehension. “Romeo and Juliet” impels us to enter recurrently distant contexts, looking at the history of dance in confrontation with the contemporary world, society, and all its icons and values.
