The jazz workshops are a truly exceptional experience allowing for creative collaboration with musicians of high technical quality involved in one of the most exciting contexts of contemporary jazz creation. As with the jam sessions, the workshops are led by the musicians in residence who have come from America at the Festival’s invitation to set up shop in Guimarães for two weeks.
This year, in charge of the jazz workshops is a group of young performers hailing from one of the most important cities for jazz, Chicago. Bassist and composer Matt Ulery, pianist Rob Clearfield, saxophonist Greg Ward, drummer Quin Kirchner, and violinist Zack Brock are the versatile instrumentalists with outstanding technical skill and a solid reputation on the demanding Chicago circuit, men whose career paths have enabled them to collaborate with some of the most prominent names in contemporary music.
