João dos Santos Martins • Choreography
What would it be like if a dance spoke expressively to
make itself understood?
Choreography focuses on the relationship between choreography as a
non-communicative artistic support and sign language as a system of vocabulary,
based on gestures whose foundation enables communication in the social sphere. Choreography,
as imagined by Raoul Feuillet in his treatise, Chorégraphie, was first written
on paper, and only later performed and transposed to the body. João dos Santos
Martins focuses on this paradox, in an attempt to articulate processes of
incorporation and appropriation in dance.
