Sérgio de Carvalho is a playwright, director, theatre researcher and founder of the Companhia do Latão, a theatre group based in São Paulo, Brazil. In September, the Companhia do Latão will cross the ocean, as part of the Mostra São Palco - a Brazilian theatre festival in Portugal produced by Teatrão – to be held in several cities. We took advantage of this opportunity to invite Sérgio de Carvalho to spend two days in Guimarães and provide an intensive Theatre Writing Lab, to share his experience and knowledge about dialectical theatre and his inevitable connection to Brecht. The sessions will be held on a Monday and Tuesday, when theatres are usually closed and their staff have their days off. The challenge for them (and for anyone interested in learning about writing for the theatre) is to exchange their days off for the chance to discuss ideas and meet in the Espaço Oficina to write, trace new ideas and take risks.
