Compagnie Marie Chouinard (CA)
Magnificat + BodyremixRemix
If Marie Chouinard is known for one creation, it is surely bODY_rEMIX/gOLDBERG _vARIATIONS (2005), in which the company’s dancers explore variations on the exercise of freedom that reflect the complexity of the human condition. In this double bill presented at the 15th edition of GUIdance, that piece is reimagined in a shorter version and performed alongside her new creation Magnificat (2025), both set to music by Johann Sebastian Bach.
In Magnificat, Chouinard reinvents Bach’s sacred work in honor of the Virgin Mary through a choreography that celebrates movement, precision, and beauty with Baroque music sung in Latin and reinterpreted for today. Through group sequences, as well as trios, duets, and solos, Magnificat is a choreography that — like the finest ones — leaves the audience wanting more.
BodyremixRemix, like the original work, is filled with striking images of dancers equipped with crutches, prosthetics, and pointe shoes, which alternately restrict, liberate, or generate new movements. Subtle and extravagant, sumptuous and wild, BodyremixRemix explores the insoluble mystery of the body and of the human being through a poetic, fascinating, and contemporary journey.

The Compagnie Marie Chouinard is proud to be carbon neutral. Since 2020, the Company has analyzed and offset the carbon footprint of its tours, productions and studios. The Company supports the Quebec initiative Carbone boréal, which reforests naturally deserted terrain in the boreal forests north of Lake Saint-Jean. These are public lands protected by their designation as experimental forests in partnership with the Quebec Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks. This project is also used for scientific research purposes.
