"Pela Boca Morre" is an interactive quiz-style performance that transforms a café into a laboratory of existential crisis. Based on the text “No princípio era” by David Calão, the company N.A.V.I.O., in partnership with T.E.R.B., questions the value we assign to information. If, for Steiner, the café is the intellectual birthplace of Europe, what can be said of a society that frequents them to play at being intellectual? Although for a long time the idea of the café was one of debate, discussion, and full conviviality, today it seems to be quite the opposite. But it’s not as if the performance intends to resolve any of these issues—it is perhaps a moment of heightened clarity, certainly an unhappy one, amidst a very joyful game.
