KITADA is Marga Alfeirão's new choreographic work. Continuing her exploration of female desire and eroticism as sources of memory, this piece takes as its starting point the mass deforestation of the 15th century to build colonial fleets, regarded as the first package of environmental and industrial policy, which targeted women's knowledge on a vast scale, directly threatening their relationship with, and dependence on, dreams, plants and landscapes. KITADA emerges as a mission to rescue the dreams of older women through the pirate dismantling of the fleet – tuning. Performed by three dancers between the ages of 45 and 60, and drawing on accounts from the Recolhimentos do Desagravo of Montemor-o-Novo, the Conselho das Tias and conscientious objections to voluntary termination of pregnancy at Évora Hospital, KITADA investigates the trajectories of female cunning.
