A Luminosa Violência da Perfeição
Inspired by Maurice Ravel's Pavane pour une infante défunte, the performance unfolds as a choreographic procession in which slowness and intensity coexist. Drawing on the idea of the pavane – a processional dance of melancholic character – it develops a physical reflection on postponing the end of youth and on all that remains to be lived. Between restraint and release, the bodies move through an expanded sense of time that seems to conceal a constant urgency. The movement oscillates between resistance and escape, evoking images of cavalries in transit and wild forces seeking liberation. In this uninterrupted journey, the performance questions duration, memory and the possibility of stepping beyond oneself, proposing the possibility of the freedom to run in circles endlessly.
Daniel Matos (Lagos, 1996) began his studies in Visual Arts before graduating in Dance from the Escola Superior de Dança – IPL. His work develops through multidisciplinary practices, exploring the body as a biographical field and embracing the present as a political space of transgression, ritual and affection. Since 2014, he has been an artistic collaborator, performer and rehearsal assistant with the duo Ana Borralho & João Galante. As a performer, he has collaborated with Angélica Liddell, Romeo Castellucci, Rui Horta, Luís Marrafa, André Uerba, Amélia Bentes and Davis Freeman. He has been invited to share his creative processes at the Conservatori Superior de Dansa de València, the Escola Superior de Dança, the Paulo Cunha e Silva Campus and A PiSCiNA. Since 2017, he has presented his work as a choreographer.
