GUIdance – International Festival of Contemporary Dance
The Synchronization of Diversity
Periods of profound cultural and social transformation demand from human choreography complex movements subject to reinvention. This reinvention and experimentalism, aimed at projecting the future, have accelerated, even as there is a growing sense that the future itself has become an outdated idea, overtaken by the vertigo of dematerialization.
In this edition of GUIdance, we address the importance of the body—its representation as a technology of the future—and the implications of a set of revolutions synchronized in time, which affect our cognitive power and the construction of life in community.
At its 15th edition, we bring back the grandeur of past presences (Akram Khan, Marie Chouinard, Olga Roriz, Tânia Carvalho), reaffirming the relevance of investing in relationships and in the materials that constitute our humanism. We also make room for the discovery of other voices (Janet Novás, Ermira Goro), so that this reinvention and experimentalism may offer us new ways of thinking and feeling, as a possibility for the growth of all our differences.
The synchronization of diversity is now a process that challenges our evolution, and there is nothing better than channeling this revolution of different wills through dance, and through stories that can bring understanding to our present days and empathy to our gaze.
The journey will be intense, as in previous editions, but the expressive manifestation of art and the different forms of the human imagination will make this GUIdance a vast sensitive field and a challenge to the possibility of synchronizing improbable things.
Let us dance, then, in synchrony, through the difference that characterizes us.
